When Tiger Lily Cafe opened just weeks before Iowa’s biggest music festival, its owners didn't anticipate the crowds — or the chaos. Now, one year later, it’s thriving.

The festival’s new 90 Degree Guarantee is the first of its kind. The policy references climate change, and states that the festival will issue refunds to ticket-holders who request them if temperatures are predicted to reach or exceed 90 degrees.

The Theatrical Shop in Valley Junction, which sells costumes, wigs and stage supplies year-round, got an urgent message the night before the artist's Hinterland Music Festival set. They met the need and rented out nun costumes to her bandmates.

With climate change, extreme weather events are becoming increasingly common, and extreme heat is part of the package. Some humans are coming up with creative and sometimes expensive ways to cope, but many more are vulnerable.
