LISTEN: Third Week Of Legislative Overtime At Iowa Statehouse

John Pemble

One of the main sticking points delaying adjournment is shifting mental health funding from counties to the state.

IPR Morning Edition host Clay Masters talks with IPR state government reporter Katarina Sostaric about whether legislators seem to be close to agreements so that the 2021 legislative session can adjourn.

There was not any public debate by the full House or Senate last week as Republican leaders have been trying to reach agreement on tax policy, mental health funding, and the state budget. Gov. Kim Reynolds and Senate Republicans have a tax bill they’re pushing. House Republicans have a separate bill and one of the main sticking points has been the governor and Senate's proposal to shift all mental health funding from county property taxes to the state.
