Warren Has Republican Roots

John Pemble/IPR
U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren was elected to represent Massachusetts in 2012.

River to River's "Home State View" series helps us understand how the presidential candidates are viewed as leaders in the states they call home. Host Ben Kieffer interviews journalists who have spent years covering the candidates. We get the little-known details about each hopeful's history. Click the "play" button to listen.

Anthony Brooks, senior political reporter with WBUR in Boston, shares a home state perspective on Democratic presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren's rise through politics. He talks with Host Ben Kieffer about how Warren focused on bankrupcy and the middle class as a Harvard law professor, which strengthened her goal to even the odds for the working class. He says her views on bankruptcy put her at odds with former Vice President Joe Biden during a 2005 Senate hearing. Brooks also explains how Warren deals with criticism, such as the controversy surrounding her claim of Native American heritage.
