Talk of Iowa, hosted by Charity Nebbe

KCCK is Iowa's only jazz-formatted radio station, but it's influence goes beyond the airwaves.

KCCK is a public jazz format station based on the Kirkwood Community College campus in Cedar Rapids. This year the station is celebrating the 50th anniversary of when it received its FCC license, with events happening now through August.

Current and former KCCK staff reflect on the station's evolution over the last 50 years, including its commitment over the last couple decades to provide jazz education to elementary through high school students in eastern Iowa. We also hear from two musicians who have been influenced by these educational offerings.

Guests:

  • Dennis Green, general manager, KCCK
  • Dave Becker, former director of programming, Nevada Public Radio; former music coordinator and deejay, KCCK
  • Vivian Shanley, musician, and former student and counselor, KICK Middle School Jazz Band Camp
  • Blake Shaw, Iowa City-based musician and director of jazz studies, Mount Mercy University
