Iowa Public Radio Launches Talk of Iowa Book Club Podcast

We're pleased to announce the official launch of the Talk of Iowa Book Club podcast. Season 1 in its entirety has dropped into podcast feeds, and season 2 episodes will begin populating at the end of every month in 2021, beginning in January.

The Talk of Iowa Book Club podcast is a product of the monthly on-air book club show on IPR’s Talk of Iowa, heard on IPR News and News/Studio One signals weekdays at 10 a.m. with host Charity Nebbe. While the goal of the on-air show is to get listeners to read along each month and tune in live for the discussion, the podcast allows readers to read and enjoy these discussions on-demand at their own pace.

The 2021 reading list and on-air show dates are listed on IPR’s website, and the 2021 monthly podcast episodes will follow the reading list – giving readers an advance look at the book discussions planned for the year. The hope is for book lovers all over the state of Iowa and beyond to get a copy of the books, and upon book completion, tune into the podcast episode where authors and expert readers dig in to discuss the big picture themes and characters of the book with host Charity Nebbe. For book club enthusiasts, IPR has also launched the official Talk of Iowa Book Club Facebook group to encourage ongoing conversations among readers online.

“This has been a really enjoyable project for us,” says Talk of Iowa talk show and Talk of Iowa Book Club podcast host Charity Nebbe. “The news cycle of the past year has been relentless and everyone is dealing with challenges they didn't expect. The Talk of Iowa Book Club has been a labor of love, a kind of respite in this crazy world and an opportunity to connect with our listeners in a different way. I'm very excited to keep these conversations going through the podcast.”

The Talk of Iowa Book Club podcast project is the first fully executed project of IPR’s Innovation Fund, an annual fund established in 2019 by The Heartland Mitzvah Fund. These funds are providing funding over the next 5 years for projects or programs with potential to better serve existing, new and diverse audiences, as well as with potential to have long-term impact and strengthen Iowa Public Radio.
