Charles Ives wasn't just one of America's greatest musicians--he was also a successful insurance executive who dabbled in politics. In early 1920, he proposed an amendment to the Constitution that would have added national referenda to the Presidential ballot. He was unsuccessful, but he won a different sort of election in 1947 when the Pulitzer Prize board recognized him for his Third Symphony, "The Camp Meeting."
