Branstad to Clinton: Come Early, Come Often

Governor Terry Branstad at his weekly news conference in the Capitol.

Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will launch her campaign for the Democratic nomination for president with two stops in Iowa this week.

Governor Branstad gives her the same advice he gives all the candidates, don’t be a stranger to Iowa.

Clinton will meet with small groups in Monticello and Norwalk for her inaugural trip.   Branstad calls that a departure.

“Obama had the big rallies with thousands of people,” Branstad says.   “But every election is different.”

Clinton will lead roundtable discussions, first with students and teachers at the Kirkwood Community College regional campus in Monticello, and then with small business owners in Norwalk.

“Hillary didn't call me to ask my advice on where she should go,” Branstad quipped.   “I think it’s intriguing that the first stop is Monticello, Iowa.”

The land for the Kirkwood center was donated by a former Republican lawmaker and Branstad made a campaign stop there in 2010.
