Every year the Senate and House propose separate funding levels for Iowa K-12 public schools. This year they compromise at a 2.4% increase for state supplemental aid. This amount will require some school districts to increase property taxes. A proposal to add additional one-time funding to all but one school district did not pass but a similar bill may gain momentum soon in the House. The House Education subcommittee advances a bill that would remove some funding from a school that uses material from The 1619 Project and the Senate Education subcommittee advances a bill about gender identity and bathroom use.
