On Friday, Sept. 20, at 2 PM at Iowa City's downtown Java House, IPR Studio One's Ben Kieffer will host a special hour of "Java Blend" with Briar Rabbit.
Ben Kieffer will chat with Briar Rabbit about his "thought-pop" music, and the band will also perform a live 50-minute set. This program is free and open to the public!
Described in The American Songwriter magazine as a "modern storyteller/crooner," Briar Rabbit joined the folk-pop scene with albums, The Company You Keep and The Great Routine in Feb. 2011. The band features Philip Michael Scales on vocals, guitar, and mandolin. With his suspenders and classic style, it’s easy to imagine Briar Rabbit on a stage decades ago crooning away. He is not only a musician, but also a storyteller, writing his lyrics with the intentions of having them processed by listeners and creating a dialogue with his fans. While his “thought-pop” is captivating, Briar Rabbit wants listeners to really respond to the lyrics which he carefully crafts like a story, just as his namesake would insinuate.
