It’s been 71 years since the Chicago Cubs have been to the World Series. Cubs fans are excited, and nervous, now that a series run is finally happening.
“I thought that when they made it, I would celebrate and cry, but when they won the pennant, I just sort of sat there in shock,” says Chip Marshall, former sports reporter for the Cedar Rapids Gazette.
Marshall has been a long-suffering Cubs fan since his first trip to Wrigley Field with his dad in the 1960s. This hour on Talk of Iowa, host Charity Nebbe talks with Marshall and Randy Wehofer, director for media relations and play-by-play broadcaster for the Iowa Cubs.
Wehofer says this season has been particularly exciting for Iowa Cubs fans who are also fans of the Chicago Cubs.
“Sixteen of the 25 guys on the active roster for the Cubs were Iowa Cubs,” he says.
Principal Park in Des Moines has been opening up the stadium for fans to watch the games on the big screen. They will open up the stadium for Game 7 tonight at 6:00 p.m.
