It's just a great summer to be in Iowa if you're a live music fan. - James Moore
There’s a new music festival, Hinterland, in Des Moines this summer, and other communities in Iowa are looking to get involved in the summer festival scene. This year marks the third anniversary of Fairfield’s “Fairfest,” a free weekend series of concerts and the Gentlemen of the Road Tour is stopping over in Waverly this weekend. During this Talk of Iowa segment, host Charity Nebbe talks with Graham Garner, who works for Wartburg College, about the logistics of organizing a weekend camping and music festival in a small town, and James Moore, co-founder of Fairfest, a free weekend of concerts in Fairfield.
"There's a lot of live music happening this summer," Moore says. "We're hoping to attract around 20,000 people to Fairfest. It's just a great summer to be in Iowa if you're a live music fan."
Tickets are still available for the Gentlemen of the Road Tour, which features Mumford and Sons. Fairfest starts Friday, June 19 at 5:00 p.m. Headliners include Elephant Revival, Cyril Neville and Greg and Pieta Brown. Find out more here.
