Gifts of Kindness

For a handful of us, the last year has brought gifts of life changing kindness.

Mel Neal, who farms near Fairbank, is one of those of those people who has been on the receiving end of that kindness several times. About a decade ago, he lost his brother in a tragic car accident in mid-September, right before harvest. The idea of getting both his and his brother’s crops out of the field was overwhelming. To his surprise, friends and neighbors showed up to help harvest the crop.

You always think its never going to happen to you, but there are a lot of wonderful people in this world. They are out there to help you. - Mel Neal

“Without us asking them, we had people arriving with tractors and augers and semis. They came to get the rest of the grain,” Neal tells host Charity Nebbe. “You always think it’s never going to happen to you, but there are a lot of wonderful people in this world. They are out there to help you.”

During this hour of Talk of Iowa, Charity Nebbe talks with Neal and a handful of Iowans about incredible acts of kindness that have made all the difference. During this hour, we also hear from Chuck Offenburger, Evelyn Mae Birkby, Jim Pease and Kathi Anderson.
