Iowa Gaming Official Says Casinos Will Look Different When They Reopen

Iowa restaurants, barber shops and retail establishments are slowly coming back to life following an executive order from the governor.

That’s not the case for the state’s bars and casinos which will remain closed at least through May 27.

Iowa Racing and Gaming administrator Brian Ohorilko told IPR’s Pat Blank on All Things Considered Friday that when the venues are allowed to open their doors, things will be different inside.

"Customers may not be able to touch the cards as much as they used to, we’ll see seating removed to promote social distancing, " he said. "With many of the food and beverage outlets, I do not believe we’ll see customers being able to get their own food like you would see at a normal buffet."

Iowa is home to 19 state run casinos. There's also a handful of properties operated by Native American tribes.
