It is easy to take the crossword puzzle for granted. It's a ubiquitous part of every newspaper and magazine. Online puzzles are easy to find and you can usually pick up a collection in the check out aisle at your local grocery store.

Puzzle fanatics, of course, have a much more intense relationship with these grids. But even a puzzle fanatic will learn something new and surprising from Adrienne Raphel's new book "Thinking Inside The Box: Adventures with Crosswords and the Puzzling People Who Can't Live Without Them."

Raphel has an MFA in poetry from the Iowa Writers' Workshop and she'll be doing a virtual event at Prairie Lights Bookstore on Tuesday March 16 at 7:00PM.

Guest:

  • Adrienne Raphel, author, "Thinking Inside The Box: Adventures with Crosswords and the Puzzling People Who Can't Live Without Them"

Rick Brewer was a producer for IPR's Talk of Iowa and River to River
