Amplifying US-Based Misinformation Simplifies Russian Election Interference

FBI Director Christopher Wray said this month that the U.S is seeing significant moves by Russians to influence the 2020 election, with a goal of denigrating Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.

But those efforts, writes Vox’s national security writer Jen Kirby, have evolved since 2016. Now, the focus is on amplifying misinformation, much of it from speeches and comments by the president.

Another tactic? Luring unknowing American writers to submit material to websites like PeaceData. These sites are linked to the notorious Internet Research Agency, which figured prominently in Russia’s 2020 interference activities.

Kirby joins host Robin Young to discuss the issues and nuances.
