TAB the Band: 'Backseat Lover'

TAB the Band has released two full-length albums since forming in 2007.

For a group that has been around less than two years, TAB the Band knows how to rock hard. Brothers Tony and Adrian Perry teamed up with friend Ben Tileston to form TAB (an acronym of their first names) at the start of 2007, and things have come together quickly for the trio. They've since released two EPs and two full-length albums, the latest of which is Long Weekend.

Clocking in at barely more than 30 minutes, Long Weekend is brief and to the point, with a huge, classic rock sound. The energetic "Backseat Lover" opens the album with thundering drums and guitar. The tone relaxes slightly on "Where She Was On Monday," a song that recalls the Rolling Stones, while "My Baby is Fine" is a Southern rock jam you'd expect to hear played in a beer bar, with all the patrons happily singing along with the jukebox.

If the Perry name sounds familiar to fans of classic rock, it's for good reason. Adrian and Tony happen to be sons of Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry. But even though it doesn't hurt to have such an iconic dad, don't be fooled into thinking that nepotism is what is garnering attention for TAB the Band and Long Weekend. This talented trio has created an exuberant album that tips the hat to its rock & roll predecessors without feeling trite or at all derivative.
