As eBay continues to rack up headlines as well as sales, the modern-day live auctioneer has turned to the internet in an effort to keep the profession up to date. Individual web pages, e-mail lists, proxy bids via e-mail, and digital photographs of auction items are ways that auctioneers are competing with the online auction services. And the future of auctioneering will take them even further from the well-loved traditions of the trade.
