The Hold Steady Steady On
The Hold Steady formed in 2003, and from their first album right up to their latest, "Thrashing Thru The Passion," the band has remained true to a certain musical approach. You could say that they've held steady with a sound that bridges indie rock and classic rock.
Frontman and lyricist Craig Finn was born in Boston, but he grew up in the Minneapolis suburb of Edina, Minnesota. The Hold Steady are a Brooklyn based band, but over the years Finn has consistently reminded us of where he spent his youth- just check out the sticker on his guitar in the photo above. Through each new record, Finn has continued to describe the characters, environs and events of a Minneapolis milieu that may be real or imagined or both. Listeners have compared this to Bruce Springsteen's songs set in New Jersey.
Bruce Springsteen's music has also been referenced in describing The Hold Steady's epic rock sound. For "Thrashing Thru The Passion" the band has added horn players and expanded to a six-piece. The Hold Steady have always had a classic rock approach, with Finn's vocal delivery and attitude supplying an indie rock edge.
