IPR Classical's Performance Iowa has a special holiday broadcast this weekend. The Quad City Symphony Orchestra's St. Matthew Passion performance will air on Saturday, April 20th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
As the finale of their 2017 Masterworks season, the QCSO performed the St. Matthew Passion, one of Bach's greatest masterpieces. It is a "work of depth and drama that expresses the power of sacrifice, metaphorically life’s journey."
Bach's composition is the story of the final days of Jesus' life. The powerful role of the Evangelist is performed by Dan Coakwell, and Jesus is sung by Daniel Lichti, both internationally acclaimed artists.
The QCSO performed St. Matthew Passion in English, under Maestro Mark Russell Smith. Jon Hurty, director of Augustana College Choir and Quad City Choral Arts prepared the choirs for this extraordinary collaboration.
Tune in to hear six vocal soloists, two organs, viola da gamba, the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, Handel Oratorio Society and Quad City Choral Arts perform Bach's St. Matthew Passion on Saturday, April 20th at 4 p.m. on IPR Classical.
