The band YACHT began in Portland, Oregon is 2002. The core members of the band are Claire Evans and Jona Bechtolt, and it was Bechtolt's attendance at an alternative school in Portland called Young Americans Challenging High Technology that gave the band its name (YACHT is an acronym). In fact, challenging (or at least observing and calling attention to) technology and modern life is a good description of what the band is all about. On I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler, YACHT'S intelligent, clever lyrics often cause the listener to think about subjects like identity and technology. The words are supported by the band's incredibly catchy, synth-based music. YACHT may remind you of some of the smarter New Wave bands of the '80s.
