Marimba Magnificence In Cedar Falls

Five talented Heartland Marimba Ensemble performers will bring their marimba magnificence to IPR’s Cedar Falls Studios! Wednesday at noon, they will perform music by Gershwin, McCartney, Joplin, Green, Ravel, Coley, and Rossini. The performance is free and open to the public. Tune in to IPR Classical on your favorite device or stop by IPR’s Cedar Falls Studios this Wednesday at noon for this magical live Performance Iowa broadcast!

The 2019 Heartland Marimba Ensemble artists include Matthew Coley, Conner Viets, Nathaniel Holman, Hannah Gallamore, and Nick Behrends. The ensemble will be touring throughout the Midwest during the month of June. Audience members will experience a “unique symbiosis of visual and aural splendor” of each performer “gliding up and down the instrument” to produce the beautiful sound of the “singing wood.” In addition, Heartland Marimba encourages audience members to ask questions and join them on stage to explore and learn about the instruments.

Matthew Coley, executive director of Heartland Marimba, created the organization in 2014 to “celebrate the marimba and its history, along with its performers and music.” The organization has grown since then and now includes a summer festival, holiday concerts, biannual chamber music tours, in addition to an academy and summer music workshop for students.

Join us to hear the Heartland Marimba Ensemble in action. That’s Wednesday, June 5th at noon in Iowa Public Radio’s Cedar Falls Studios!
