Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever are an up-and-coming band from Melbourne, Australia. They formed in 2013 and released a couple of EPs leading up to their debut full-length album, Hope Downs. The record is named after a vast open cut mine in the middle of Australia. Guitar-centric indie rock is alive and well in the land down under (Courtney Barnett!), and Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever like to play theirs in the wide open spaces. According to Fran Keaney, one of the band's three songwriter/guitarist/vocalists: "We didn't really want to record in a studio. We thought we'd get away up North (to Northern New South Wales)...and record the songs live in the same room." As songwriter/guitarist/vocalist Joe White describes it: " We were right at the foot of this beautiful mountain next to a creek. We could play out into the bush through the night."
