Self-Deception Is Common But Can Be Used To Your Advantage

With the growth of QAnon conspiracy theories, and rampant misinformation about COVID-19, there have been many times in the past year when it's been easy to see the very real dangers of embracing false beliefs. But believing things that aren’t true is far more common than most of us could imagine and it’s not all bad. On this episode of Talk of Iowa, we find out why that is with the host of "Hidden Brain" Shankar Vedantam.

On this episode of Talk of Iowa, host Charity Nebbe speaks with Shankar Vedantam about his latest book, “Useful Delusions: The Power and Paradox of the Self-Deceiving Brain.”

Vedantam is also the host of Hidden Brain, a public radio program and podcast that explores life’s unseen patterns to provide a better understanding of the world and human behavior.
