Iowa DNR forester Mark Vitosh joins this edition of Horticulture Day to talk about the importance of pruning your trees. “With good pruning in the first five to 20 years of a tree's life, we can prune out some of those defects and promote the health and structure to those trees, and we can make them stronger when [storms] come around," says Vitosh.

On this “Horticulture Day” edition of Talk of Iowa, host Charity Nebbe speaks with Iowa DNR forester Mark Vitosh about pruning shade trees and Cindy Haynes, associate professor of horticulture at Iowa State University also joins the program to answer questions from listeners about the plants and trees in their lives.

Guests:

  • Cindy Haynes, associate professor of horticulture at Iowa State University
  • Mark Vitosh, forester, Iowa Department of Natural Resources
