Mary Swander is a former poet laureate of Iowa, a playwriter and author and executive director and founder of AgArts. And this year she’s added a few new adjectives to her description. She’s a podcaster and a biographer.

On this edition of Talk of Iowa, Charity speaks with Mary Swander about her new book "The Maverick MD: Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez and his Fight for a New Cancer Treatment." This is her first biography.

Swander also talks about one of her most recent ventures outside of book publishing, a podcast titled "AgArts From Horse And Buggy Land," a reference to the rural Amish area where she lives.

Guest:

  • Mary Swander, executive director, AgArts
Charity Nebbe is the host of IPR's Talk of Iowa
Rick Brewer was a producer for IPR's Talk of Iowa and River to River
