In her new book, author Lyz Lenz offers a defense of the rights of pregnant women, dispelling cultural myths around gender roles and purity.

Being pregnant and giving birth are two of the most profound personal experiences a woman can have. They’re also experiences that everyone seems to have an opinion about, from cashiers at the grocery store to politicians seeking to regulate reproductive rights. It’s these cultural commentaries that lay the groundwork for Cedar Rapids Gazette columnist Lyz Lenz’s newest book.

Belabored: A Vindication of the Rights of Pregnant Women is part memoir, part history and part manifesto. On this episode of Talk of Iowa, Lenz joins host Charity Nebbe for a look at her second book.

Guest:

  • Lyz Lenz, author and Gazette columnist
Charity Nebbe is the host of IPR's Talk of Iowa
Katelyn Harrop is a producer for IPR's River to River and Talk of Iowa
