An extra round of watering may be needed to keep your garden fresh on particularly hot summer days.

Mother Nature can be pretty inconsistent in her watering strategy, so sometimes she needs a little help.

It’s horticulture day on Talk of Iowa. Host Charity Nebbe talks with horticulturists Richard Jauron and Aaron Steil about watering strategies that can keep your plants healthy and happy through the hot Iowa summer. In general, plants need about one inch of moisture every week. The number one takeaway? You should do your watering in the morning.
Forester Mark Vitosh also joins the program to answer listener’s tree questions.

Guests:

  • Richard Jauron, Iowa State University Extension Horticulture Specialist
  • Aaron Steil, Assistant Director of Reiman Gardens
  • Mark Vitosh, forester with the Department of Natural Resources
