These Eighty-Year-Olds Are Still Finding Ways To Make A Difference

We love to celebrate the accomplishments of young people in our culture. Every year we find lists of 30 under 30 or 40 under 40, but sometimes we forget about our elders.

However, for the last ten years, the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier has been taking some time to honor the accomplishments of people who are 80 years old or older. They call it 8 over 80.

On this hour of Talk of Iowa, our host Charity Nebbe talks with the editor of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier and four remarkable Iowans who are in their 80s and have been honored for their scholarship, services, volunteering efforts and more.

Guest Include:

  • Nancy Newhoff, Editor of the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.
  • Len Froyen, 8 over 80 honoree 2019.
  • Lorraine Griffie, 8 over 80 honoree 2018.
  • Marie Nitzschke, 8 over 80 honoree 2019.
  • Joy Thiel, 8 over 80 honoree 2019.
