Tallgrass Conversations: In Search of the Prairie Spirit

There was a time when tallgrass prairie once covered about 85 percent of Iowa. Today, tallgrass prairie is one of the most altered and threatened ecosystems on the planet, though more Iowans are turning back to native prairie plans in their yards and landscapes.

In this edition of Talk of Iowa, Charity Nebbe talks with Cindy Crosby and Thomas Dean about their new book, "Tallgrass Conversations; In Search of the Prairie Spirit," in which they hope to inspire a new understanding of the Midwestern tallgrass prairie.

"We wanted to really focus on more than environmental and ethical aspects of prairies, but also the emotional, aesthetic, and spiritual," says Dean. "We try to encourage people to look and interact with prairies in a lot of different ways."
