Louie Psihoyos first made waves in water and in cinematic circles in 2009 with his Academy Award-winning documentary about dolphins "The Cove."Now, the Dubuque-native is expressing his passion for protecting the Earth once again in his new film "Racing Extinction."

In this film, Psihoyos travels the globe to discuss how human behavior has led to the untimely extinction of millions of species. He says one of the biggest barriers to changing our behavior, and our world, is cynicism.

"When people tell me something can't be done, it's like catnip. We're used to thinking of the pundits, as experts, but they're not, they're people like you and I. And I've learned not to not listen to them, to go against the grain and to think unconventionally. And that's what we've done with this film. I think we've broken through this barrier."

In this Talk of Iowa interview, host Charity Nebbe talks with Psihoyos about the film.
