Embracing Mistakes

We all have those moments in life that we look back on with 20/20 hindsight and wish we could do differently. Author Cate Dicharryaims to make light of these life mistakes and times of regret with a tinge of humor in her new book “The Fine Art of F***ing Up.”

On this segment of Talk of Iowa, host Charity Nebbe talks with Dicharry about the inspiration for her new novel.

“When I started writing this book, what I wanted to write and capture were those moments when you realize that you have made some very significant mistakes in your life,” Dicharry said. “In my experience, what happens in those moments is you tend to make it worse for awhile before you make it better, and it compounds, and you make some even worse decisions.”

Dicharry also speaks of the audience she intended to share her book with.

“[The book is for] anyone who wants to read comedy, or anyone who wants to laugh,” she said. “I had a lot of fun writing this book and writing in general. For me, it’s a complete joy—it’s being at play, and I hope that comes through. So anyone who wants that kind of reading experiencing, that’s who it’s for.”
