Iowa’s premier public opinion researcher unpacks this summer’s Iowa Poll. What we expected and what we didn’t.

J. Ann Selzer of Selzer & Company has overseen The Des Moines Register Iowa Poll since 1987. Over the years, she said her polling tracks a decade-over-decade plunge in the popularity of Sen. Chuck Grassley and a month-over-month improvement in approval for Gov. Kim Reynolds and her response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“These are moments of time. And while it looks like a pattern, many different things could be happening,” Selzer said.

On this episode of River to River, host Ben Kieffer speaks with Selzer about just what her poll tells us about our state.
