A Look Back At How COVID-19 Impacted Education

One year ago, the pandemic struck with grave consequences.

To date, the coronavirus has claimed more than 500,000 lives across the country. Iowa has seen more than 5,500 deaths since the pandemic started last spring. COVID-19 has emptied workplaces, sent students home from schools, isolated us in our homes and strained families.

On this episode of River to River, host Ben Kieffer and his guests reflect on the impact the pandemic has had on education.

Guests:

  • Matt Degner, superintendent, Iowa City Public Schools
  • Grant Gerlock, education reporter, Iowa Public Radio
  • Kylee Haueter, news editor of student life, The Iowa State Daily, Iowa State University
  • Vanessa Miller, higher education reporter, Cedar Rapids Gazette
