Mask Mandates, Eviction Spikes And Returning To The Classroom In The Middle Of A Pandemic

The Johnson County Board of Health will meet Tuesday, August 4, to vote on a mask mandate before heading to the Johnson County Board of Supervisors for a final vote on the issue.

On this edition of River to River, host Ben Kieffer speaks with Iowa City Press Citizen reporter Zach Smith for the latest on the Johnson County mask mandate and how it may be enforced. Then a conversation on eviction cases spiking in Iowa. Ian Richardson with the Des Moines Register explains how some evictions are in violation of federal law and what Iowans can do if they find themselves facing an eviction notice. Later in the program, we speak with Matthew Nevins, as part of our ongoing Pandemic Diary series. He describes his deepest concerns about returning to the classroom in the approaching school year.
