We’ve pulled together some favorite conversations from our archives, starting with a 2014 conversation with Marc Long, head coach of the University of Iowa swimming and diving team. Since many pools are closed for the summer, we thought we'd listen back to Long;s story of how the butterfly stroke was invented in an Iowa pool.
How about a recommendation for something you could do, right now, that's scientifically proven to lift your spirits? Given the state of the global pandemic, we could probably all use the boost provided by listening to Iowa State University psychologist Doug Gentile. He was part of a team in 2019 that tested the benefits of three different techniques intended to reduce anxiety and increase happiness and well-being.
And finally, we turn to one of the biggest mix-ups in the country. Iowans have all run into it from time to time — non-mid-westerners confusing Iowa with the state of Idaho. Idaho columnist Tim Woodward brings us stories about the confusion.
