How Iowa Brick-And-Mortar Retailers Are Adjusting To E-Commerce

In 2019, for the first time in history, online retailers have a greater market share than brick-and-mortar stores.

On this edition of River to River, listeners will learn how a pair of Iowa brick-and-mortar retailers have been adjusting to the rise of e-commerce. These retailers are looking to emphasize services that online shopping cannot provide, such as experiences, entertainment options and advice on products.

The latter portion of the show features a conversation with Economist Dave Swenson to help explain how the retail market is fairing from a numbers standpoint and what the future could look like for brick-and-mortar stores. Corridor Bussiness Journal Reporter Katharine Carlon also shares her research on the early developments of Amazon possibily opening a distribution center in Iowa City. Read Carlon's full report here.
