He’s Back! Peter Hamlin Storms IPR’s Classical Studio!

IPR has a special treat on Wednesday, March 27th! Former classical music host for KUNI-FM, Peter Hamlin, will be on air from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Peter is a composer who has written works for orchestra, band, choir, chamber ensembles, voice, music theater, and most recently, electronic media. He is also a music professor at Middlebury College in Vermont, teaching theory, electronic music, and composition. He previously taught at St. Olaf College. Peter worked as a radio producer/host at KPBS-FM in San Diego from 1974-1980 and at KUNI-FM in Cedar Falls from 1980-1990.

Peter first received his BA in music at Middlebury and then received an MM degree in composition from the University of Northern Iowa, studying with Peter Michaelides. He went on to earn his PhD from the Eastman School of Music. There, he studied composition with Joseph Schwantner and Samuel Adler.

Peter Hamlin will be on air on Wednesday, March 27th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Peter’s unique program will include music with a Spanish flare and brilliant tone color.

In addition, Wednesday evening, March 27th at 6 p.m. in the UNI Art Gallery, Peter will be performing an Electronic Music Concert with UNI Faculty Artists Jeffrey Funderburk and Sandy Nordhal.
