Iowa Filmmaking Definitely Holds a Candle to Hollywood

“The Film Lounge” is a series that showcases short, independent films by Iowa artists. The series is a collaboration between The Iowa Arts Council, Produce Iowa, and IPTV.

The series is in its third season this year. The season features topics such as cowboys, astronauts, ballet companies, and music videos, and includes anything from documentary to experimental and narrative to animation.

Also taking place in Iowa is the Clohesy Documentary Film Series. The Clohesy Documentary Film Series was created to “bring America’s most prominent, most important filmmakers to Iowa to talk and screen their work.” Independent documentarian S. Leo Chiang will visit the University of Northern Iowa February 4th-6th to screen and discuss two of his films. The first is called Out Run and features the world’s only LGBT political party. The second, an Emmy® Award-nominated film entitled A Village Called Versailles, is about the reconstruction of the Vietnamese American community in post-Katrina New Orleans.

Listen below to get The Film Lounge scoop from Michael Morain with the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs.
