A Wind Turbine Waltz

Bates used Iowa windmills and PVC pipes to fashion his own version of "Blue Danube."

Will Bates doesn’t understand how people dislike the noise of wind turbines. It’s music to his ears—literally.

Bates has made a version of “Blue Danube” using PVC pipes and Iowa wind turbines.

"Initially the idea was that we would make a original piece of music. And then in terms of kind of figuring out the visual landscape and the sonic landscape, it kind of made more sense to something that was more majestic and kind of iconographic."

Listen to the waltz and to Ben Kieffer’s interview with Bates below.
