A Second State Tournament for Iowa's Lady Wrestlers

Last winter the AAU hosted a girls wrestling tournament at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. It was the first ever hosted in Iowa. This year, the AAU is hosting another all girls tournament on February 24. The Iowa Coaches and Officials Association is also hosting a girls state tournament on Janury 19 in Waverly.

The Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union doesn't sanction high school wrestling, leaving Iowa behind many other states who are already sanctioning the sport. In the past year, eight states have added girls wrestling in some capacity. During this Talk of Iowa conversation, host Charity Nebbe checks in with Jason Lloyd, who is AAU Women's Wrestling Director and National AAU co-director.

We also hear from Felicity Taylor, who wrestled for South Winneshiek and is one of the most awarded female wreslters to come out of the state. She's in the midst of her first season at McKendree University in Illinois.
