Sarah Cahill has premiered over 60 new works by renowned composers like John Adams, Julia Wolfe and Terry Riley.

Today from 2 to 5 p.m., she’ll share another innovation at Voxman Music Building in Iowa City. She’ll play three hours of music written by women, ranging from 1707 to 2019. Admission is free, and you can come and go as you please, staying for as long or as short as you like.

When I spoke to Cahill by phone, I asked her about the program, which she calls "The Future Is Female." We also talked about what it's like to bring brand-new works to their first performance.

During her Iowa City stay, she will also coach students, lecture in classes and work with the Spektral Quartet.

Cahill is also the host of an excellent San Francisco radio show about new music, “Revolutions Per Minute" and of a website full of information about her recordings, performances and writings.
