It's not uncommon for runners to carefully monitor their diet and health as they train for a long race, but for Morgan Russell, who is training for the New York Marathon, the stakes are higher. She has type -1 diabetes, and managing her blood sugar is an integral part of her everyday life, especially during her intense workouts.
Russell was diagnosed with Type-1 diabetes when she was 12 years old, but she has never let that keep her from pursuing physical activities. Now, she is pushing herself to go the extra mile. Along with 29 other runners with type-1 diabetes, she plans to run the New York City Marathon on November 3rd as part of the Beyond type-1 team.
On this episode of Talk of Iowa, host Charity Nebbe talks with Russell about training for her first marathon and how she is raising awareness of Type-1 Diabetes.
