Nov 14, 2013

This segment of River to River features a volunteer-run court in Iowa - the Johnson County Family Treatment Court - that works with parents who suffer from substance abuse. Host Ben Keiffer sits down with a recent graduate of the court, a mother who formerly struggled with a meth addiction while trying to raise her son.

Also joining the conversation is Rachel Antonuccio, an attorney in the juvenile division of the Iowa City Public Defender’s Office and a volunteer member of the Johnson County Family Treatment Court team. She has worked with many clients struggling to kick their habit and reunite with their families. She says that these court programs are often be the best way to treat offenders and keep them from long prison terms and relapse.
