On this edition of River to River, host Ben Kieffer talks with Iowa State University sociologist Matt DeLisi about changes to our federal criminal justice system under the First Step Act passed by Congress.
They also talk about Delisi’s new study shedding a light on the importance of considering an offender’s entire criminal history during sentencing.
DeLisi is a professor of sociology at Iowa State University, where he is also Coordinator of Criminal Justice Studies and a faculty affiliate of the Center for the Study of Violence.
Then, we listen back to Kieffer’s conversation with retired Iowa Judge Douglas Russell, an expert on the life and times of Winston Churchill, about the 2018 movie "The Darkest Hour."
