Iowa Public Radio’s Studio One presented a sneak peek on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 of the upcoming Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre’s weekend performances of Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
Our musical glimpse included baritone Christopher Burchett in the title role of Don Giovanni, with baritone Lee Poulis as his servant, Leporello; soprano Veronica Mitina as Donna Elvira; soprano Michelle Price as the understudy for Donna Anna; soprano Jessica Pray as Zerlina; tenor Jonathan Blalock in the role of Don Ottavio; and Samuel Wright as Masetto. Rehearsal pianist and coach, Dr. John Hollins, was at the piano.
They performed Leprello’s aria “Madamina, ilcatalogo e questo,” Don Giovanni and Zerlina’s duet “La cidarem la mano” and Donna Elvira’s “Ah! fuggiiltraditor!” Don Giovanni performs “Finch’handal vino” Don Ottavio performs “Il miotesoro,” and Donna Anna sings “Non mi dir.” The podcast concludes with all seven singers performing the Act 1 Finale “Riposate, vezzose ragazze.”
