Performance Iowa March 9, 2012

Iowa Public Radio is excited to present a 7 p.m. WFMT broadcast of the 2011 National Endowment for the Arts Opera Honors Gala.

Now in its fourth year, the National Endowment for the Arts Opera Honors is the highest award our nation bestows in opera. NEA Opera Honors recipients are nominated by the public and chosen by an NEA-convened panel of opera experts. In addition to an awards ceremony, the designation includes a one-time grant award of $25,000.

Recorded at the Sydney Harman Theater in Washington, DC, the ceremony honors those visionary creators, extraordinary performers and other interpreters who have made a lasting impact on our national cultural landscape.

2011 Recipients:

John Conklin, stage designer
Speight Jenkins, general director
Risë Stevens, performer
Robert Ward, composer

Jacqueline Halbloom is a Sr. Music Producer and Classical Music Host
