"The Mosquito" Explores The Impact Of Our Deadliest Predator

Penguin Random House
Timothy Winegard's new book explores the impact mosquitos have had on human history.

In human history, the mosquito has been the deadliest predator killing nearly half of all human beings who have ever lived.  It has decided the fates of empires and nations and determined the trajectory of the world's economy.  It has steered and shaped our history at roughly the size and weight of a grape seed.

On this hour of River to River, host Ben Kieffer talks with Timothy Winegard about his new book "The Mosquito: A Human History of Our Dealiest Predator" and the historical impact of the mosquito dating back to its contribution to the extinction of dinosaurs.

Timothy Winegard is a professor of History and Political Science at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, Colo. and is a veteran of the Canadian Army.

This episode originally aired on 8-8-19
