New legislation will allow William Burt of Waterloo to take his barber services on the road.

A two-year dream by a Waterloo barber to allow mobile barbering in Iowa is about to come true.

The Iowa House and Senate this week unanimously passed a bill that will let William Burt to take his Kut Kings van on the road.

"It’s not just for me,” Burt explained, “it’s for the thousands of barbers throughout the state of Iowa. You know, we as barbers can now go to Menards and buy a tool box and put our clippers in it and go to the hospitals and go to the nursing homes, or go to your buddy’s house."

Burt is quick to point out that he had lots of help to realize his dream.

He said “I couldn’t have done it without the community, I couldn’t have done it without the State of Iowa, we got what we worked for,” said Burt.

The bill now awaits the governor’s signature.

In her Condition of the State address in January, Gov. Kim Reynolds referred to Burt's efforts to change state law on mobile barber shops as, "a good idea."
