There are no National Parks in Iowa, and few across the Midwest. Joe Schomberg, a Fort Dodge native living in Chicago wants to change that.
On this segment of Talk of Iowa, Host Charity Nebbe discusses the idea of making Effigy Mounds in Northeastern Iowa a National Park with Schomberg, who recently co-wrote an editorial on the subject. Bill Whittaker, Research Director at the Office of the State Archeologist also shares his views.
Schomberg invites others interested in discussing the state of National Parks in Iowa and the Midwest to email him at: effigymounds4NPS@gmail.com.
Effigy Mounds is recognized as a National Monument and boasts over 200 ancient, sacred mounds on more than 2,500 acres.
