Listen Up! Live Music You Don't Want to Miss in June

Casey Reyner
Susto at Codfish Hollow in Maquoketa

Audiophiles and live music enthusiasts of Iowa, UNITE! This is your season. Summertime is for craft beer, silly love songs, and dancing around barefoot at concerts. Am I right?!

You have been hearing our Studio One hosts Mark Simmet and Tony Dehner talk about which songs they're listening to on River to River lately. We also want to direct you to awesome live music happening this month around the state. Behold: The June Music Listical!

Friday, June 8 --- Real Estate at Codfish Hollow

Real Estate is from New Jersey. They currently live in Brooklyn and have been together for just under a deacade. They've got a mellow jangle pop show. Perfect for a summer evening on the farm.

Friday, June 15 -- Jeffrey Foucault at The Mill

Jeffrey Foucault is a singer-songwriter from Whitewater, Wisconsin. He's got four full length albums out and has toured in the US and in Europe. His style is a bluesy folk with some rock and roll influence.

Tuesday, June 19 -- Nathan Kalish at Iowa City Yacht Club

Nathan Kasish is currenlty based in East Nashville, Tennessee. He's been touring and living on the road for the last decade. His dad was an evangelical missionary, and his lyrics tell his story, which is what I like about him. His newest album is called "I Want to Believe."

Thursday, June 21 - Banditos at the Triple Crown Whiskey Bar and Raccoon Motel

Banditos is based out of Birmingham, Alabama, and they pack a very unique punch with blues, honky tonk and garage rock influences. I love bands that have both female and male vocalists, so that's one of the things I love about this band. The female vocalist, Mary Beth Richardson, reminds me of Janis Joplin. They're playing as a part ofSean Moeller's Moeller Nights concert series.

Friday, June 22 -- Langhorne Slim and The Lost at Last Band at Codfish Hollow

I'm not sure what else to say aboutthis bandor show other than 'you must go.' This is going to be an electric night in the barn. Langhorne Slim is from Nashville and encourages his audiences and fans to "join in the rallying call for the wild ones in us all."

Monday, June 25 -- Tory Lanez at Wooly's

Daystar Peterson, more well known by his stage name Tory Lanez, is a canadian rapper and hip hop artist. He's on his sophomore album tour for his record Memories Don't Die.

Monday, June 25 -- Terra Lightfoot at Vaudeville Mews

Terra played the first GARP Festival at Codfish Hollow, and that's when I fell in love with her music. Her newest album New Mistakes, and her first Everytime My Mind Runs Wild are good all the way through. Give them a listen! She's from Canada, and to my knowledge, this is the first time she'lll play a show in Des Moines.

Thursday, June 28 -- lovelytheband at Gabes's

Lovelytheband is an indie pop band from Los Angelos, California. The single in the video above has been lisetened to more than three million times on Spotify. If you don't normally venture out to see shows on Thursday, this one will be worth it.

Thursday, June 28 -- Jonathan Timm at The Mill

Timm is a folk artist from Nothern Michigan. His sound is a mix of classic rock, Americana and alt-country with a driving guitar and pedal steel that makes me think "mmhhmm yes, play it like that."

Lindsey Moon is IPR's Senior Digital Producer
